Mental Model of Flow in Sports

This model helps athletes access 'The Flow State', a mental state of complete absorption where they perform at their best.
The Flow State is achieved when an athlete's skills perfectly match the challenge at hand. It's the point where they're not just playing the game, but they're lost in it, completely absorbed. For example, a basketball player in 'flow' might sink several three-pointers in succession, moving beyond conscious thought to react instinctively to the game.
In a state of flow, people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it. - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
