This mental model presents a roadmap to a longer, healthier life by adopting the habits common among the world's longevity hotspots, known as 'Blue Zones'.
The Longevity Lifestyle Model is based on observed habits within groups that live significantly longer than average. These areas, designated as 'Blue Zones', are home to demographically significant or culturally unique groups that have a high incidence of nonagenarians and centenarians. Common habits in these areas include a primarily plant-based diet; regular, low-intensity physical activity; robust social interaction; a sense of purpose; and moderate consumption of alcohol. An example is Okinawa, Japan, whose residents are some of the world's oldest people. They practice a plant-based diet, regular exercise, and have a strong sense of local community, all contributing to their high life expectancy.
The secret to longevity, as I see it, has less to do with diet, or even exercise, and more to do with the environment you live in: the people you're around, and how you deal with stress - Dan Buettner, author of The Blue Zones Solution
